An audio clip of the banned terror outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannu to arrange shelter for Sidhu Moosewala’s killers has gone viral on social media, giving rise to speculation that Jagroop Rupa and Mannu Kussa had planned to cross over to Pakistan.

Rumours also surfaced that they had reached just 8 km from the border as they were to cross over to Pakistan through a tunnel.

An official said the pattern of cross-border tunnels was prevalent in Jammu and Kashmir, never in Punjab.

Negating these rumours, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation) Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said, “There is no indication that can certify that they had any plans to flee across the border,” he said.

He said a bag containing ammunition, clothes and other articles was seized yesterday which was taken into possession by the forensic team. “There was no document in the bag which could point towards their plans to flee across the border,” he said.

“A damaged mobile phone was also recovered. If it is revived, it can give us some vital leads,” he added.
