The Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) has decided to stage a protest outside the Bathinda District Administrative Complex (DAC) on February 18 as the authorities didn’t release two farm activists — Baldev Singh Chauke and Shagandeep Singh Jeond —arrested last year in an attempt to murder case.

The farm union had also sought cancellation of five FIRs registered against 2,000 farmers for alleged lawlessness during their February 6 protest near Rampura Phul.

Baldev and Shagandeep have been lodged in Bathinda jail since April 5 last year. They were arrested following a protest in Jeond village on January 20, 2025, which turned violent during land demarcation and consolidation proceedings directed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. During the incident, a DSP and other police personnel were reportedly held hostage by a mob.
