Ludhiana, October 31

A major fire broke out at a yarn mill on Kakka road on Sunday, officials said.

The fire broke out at the back of Modern Acrylics Private Limited, sources said, and firefighters were still trying to put it out when this report was filed.

There was nobody inside the mill when the fire broke out, sources said.

It’s still too early to give an estimate of how much damage the fire could have caused, although sources said that a large stock in the warehouse has likely been gutted.  Firefighters had to tear down the back wall of the structure to get in, sources said.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Aatish Rai, a sub-fire officer, said 25 fire tenders have been called to service so far and it could take up to two hours to put out the flames completely.
