Welcoming the UK tribunal’s order regarding declassification of documents related to Britain’s role in the 1984 Army operation at the Golden Temple, the SGPC on Wednesday demanded that the Indian Government should follow the suit.

The SGPC is already fighting a legal battle in the Delhi High Court, claiming Rs 1,000 crore damages from the Centre. The case is still pending. SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal said: “We welcome the UK tribunal’s decision. We want that the Indian government must also reveal official documents related to Operation Bluestar. The world should know about nefarious designs of the forces that were behind the unpardonable act, which had shaken the entire Sikh community.”

Echoing similar views, former Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Giani Kewal Singh said the Supreme Court should take cognisance of the UK development and direct the Indian government to follow it.

Takht meet today

Amritsar: The five Sikh high priests will hold a meeting at the Akal Takht secretariat on Thursday. They may take stern action against New Zealand-based radio jockey Harnek Singh Neki. Akal Takht has already announced that Neki may be excommunicated from the panth, as he has allegedly been broadcasting distorted Gurbani and using objectionable language against Sikh Gurus on his radio programme. He was summoned twice by Akal Takht, but he didn’t respond. TNS
