Truck overturns after ramming stationary car; driver flees scene
A man was killed and another injured in a road accident here on Saturday night.
According to a police complaint filed by one Deepak Sharma, a resident of Pathankot, he, along with Surinder Singh, Sameer Sharda, who was driving, and Pankaj Kumar, also a resident of Pathankot, was travelling from Chandigarh to Pathankot in a car.
The complainant said that as they reached the Phagwara bypass, a vehicle in front of their car suddenly applied brakes, following which their car collided with it. While they were assessing the damage, a speeding truck rammed into their car. The impact caused the truck to overturn. As a result, Pankaj, who was crushed under the truck, died on the spot and Sameer was injured.
Police shifted the body to the Civil Hospital, Phagwara.
The truck driver fled the scene following the accident.
Police said the mishap occurred due to rash driving by the truck driver.
A case has been registered and efforts are under way to trace the driver.
