CHANDIGARH: Issuing notice of motion for August 28, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday gave interim relief against arrest till then to former Akali minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan’s advocate son Jagroop Singh in an illegal mining case.

Chandigarh, May 16

Issuing notice of motion for August 28, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday gave interim relief against arrest till then to former Akali minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan’s advocate son Jagroop Singh in an illegal mining case.

Claiming that the case was planted on him due to political vendetta, Jagroop Singh said his family and the Bajwa family (MP Pratap Singh Bajwa and MLA Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa) had been political rivals for the last 50 years.

He said his father had won elections two times against the Bajwa family and was given the Cabinet minister’s post twice in the Punjab government. He added that complainant in the case Balwinder Singh was an “aide of local MLA of the Qadian constituency” and a traditional rival of his father. He lodged a complaint at the instance of the Bajwa family to frame him in a false case. — TNS
