Minister: Give funds for scholarships

Chandigarh: Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Sadhu Singh Dharamsot on Thursday urged Union Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot to release the pending funds of Rs 1,286 crore under Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for SC students. He said students in Punjab were facing problems in getting admissions in educational institutes due to delay on part of the Central government in releasing its share under this scheme. TNS


Centre to improve breed of desi cows

Chandigarh: The state will use improved latest techniques of Brazil to further improve the breed of desi cows in the state, said Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu after having a bilateral meeting with a high-level delegation from Brazil. A centre of excellence, at cost of Rs 35 crore, is proposed to be set up in collaboration with Brazil. TNS


ZPSC to protest from February 4

Sangrur: The Zameen Prapti Sangharsh Committee (ZPSC) on Thursday announced to start protest from February 4 as the state had failed to fulfill their demands. The demands include allotment of 33 per cent of common land from all villages to Scheduled Cast (SC) families for 99 years, 10 marla plots to SC families and cancellation of FIRs registered against SCs during protests.
