Modi did nothing for Punjab except make poll-time visits, says Warring

Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring on Friday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of failing to deliver for Punjab during his 12-year tenure and alleged that his visits to the state were aimed at electoral gains.

Reacting to the prime minister’s visit to Punjab, Warring claimed Modi had “nothing to offer” the state except repeating old promises ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

He alleged that the Centre had discriminated against Punjab since 2017 and questioned whether the state would receive its “rightful due” only if the BJP formed the government in Punjab.

The Congress leader also accused the prime minister of pursuing divisive politics, saying attempts to polarise people would not succeed in Punjab.

Warring said Punjab required economic and agricultural reconstruction and urged the Centre to fulfil promises made to farmers, including a legal guarantee for the minimum support price (MSP) and farm loan waivers.

He also demanded revival of industry, employment opportunities for youth, a special package for border districts, support for farmers and stronger action against the drug menace.

Stating that Punjab had made immense sacrifices for the country, Warring said the state deserved concrete action, not assurances.

The prime minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of rail and road infrastructure projects worth Rs 5,470 crore from Jalandhar, Punjab.

At a rally later, he slammed the Congress, Akali Dal and the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and said only the BJP can bring about real change in Punjab. Assembly polls in the state are to be held next year.
