A police team was attacked while conducting a raid in connection with a drug case on the Raoke road near Badhni Kalan in Moga district.
An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) sustained injuries during the attack, while two constables had their uniforms torn.
One of the accused managed to escape from the police custody amid the chaos.
According to police, they had arrested Manpreet Singh with drugs.
During interrogation, Manpreet revealed names of Gagandeep Singh, alias Duggi, and Gursharan Singh, alias Babbu, who were subsequently named in the FIR.
On Friday, a police team led by ASI Santokh Singh reached the house of Gagandeep Singh to arrest him. As soon as the police detained Gagandeep, his family members and associates allegedly attacked the police team.
In the scuffle, ASI Santokh suffered an injury, Constable Jagdeep Singh’s turban was knocked off and Constable Jagjit Singh’s jacket was torn.
Taking advantage of the commotion, Gagandeep managed to flee from the spot.
The police have arrested his father Kulwant Singh, alias Dogar, and mother Amarjit Kaur. A case has been registered against five persons under various sections of the BNS for assaulting police, obstructing duty and aiding escape.
