Moga man shot dead, assailants fire 15-20 rounds; family alleges political rivalry

A young man was allegedly shot dead on Saturday morning in Bhinder Kalan village, Dharamkot constituency of Moga district. The victim, identified as Umarsir Singh, was fired upon multiple times by unidentified assailants in what his family alleges was a politically motivated attack.

Singh, an employee at Nestle India Limited in Moga, had just left his home in his car to report for duty. According to eyewitnesses and police sources, a group of armed men intercepted his vehicle a short distance from his residence and opened fire.

The attackers reportedly fired 15 to 20 rounds, killing Singh on the spot.

The victim's family has alleged that the murder is linked to a long-standing political grudge related to the Block Samiti elections.

Singh’s brother, Ajmer Singh, called the attack a well-planned conspiracy, and alleged the village sarpanch's involvement due to political rivalry.

Senior police officials and a forensic team rushed to the crime scene. Singh’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination.

A case has been registered, and police have launched a manhunt to identify and arrest the shooters. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from the village and nearby routes to trace the assailants’ escape.
