Mohali Aerotropolis project: Landowners reject GMADA's land acquisition, demand Durali village land out of Red Zone Industry area
The protesters claimed that the relaxations were unacceptable to them as government's proposal had nothing for small landowners
A day after tension rose near the Mohali airport when scores of landowners opposing land acquisition for Aerotropolis project were evicted forcefully with their tents and chairs by the police, the protesters plan to meet at Siaun village today at 4 pm to chalk out the course of action.
The protesters from a dozen villages on Saturday disapproved of the government's relaxation given by Housing Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian to the landowners recently.
The protesters claimed that the relaxations were unacceptable to them as government's proposal had nothing for small landowners and no decision had been taken on their demand of excluding Durali village land from Red Zone Industry, they claimed.
The police had rounded up leaders Makhan Singh Gigemajra and Chamkaur Singh Jagatpura, taken them to the Aerocity Police Station and later released them.
Police officials then persuaded landowners to talk to officials at the District Administrative Complex where they were addressed by a Tehsildar and other officials.
The landowners demanded a meeting with the Chief Minister to discuss the issue. The officials assured to arrange a meeting soon.
Talking to reporters outside the DAC on Saturday, Makhan Singh Gigemajra said that police action against a scheduled peaceful protest on one side of the road was condemnable. "A meeting will be held at village Siaun at 4 pm on April 19 to chalk out the next strategy," he announced.
