Mother, daughter jump into canal in Abohar, rescued
A 35-year-old woman and her 61-year-old mother, residents of the Nai Abadi area of Abohar, on Monday jumped into the Malukpura canal on Kandhwala Road. They were rescued by bystanders.
Police officials who arrived at the scene shortly afterward shifted both women to the Civil Hospital for treatment. They are currently receiving counselling.
According to preliminary information, the woman had been under significant mental distress. Family sources said she was married a few years ago in Gurdayal Nagar and has a four-year-old daughter. Following an altercation with her husband, she had returned to her maternal home about two weeks ago.
She reportedly had health concerns and had been facing stress in her marital life. Family members also indicated that tensions at her maternal home contributed to her distress.
Further inquiry is under way.
