Muktsar, February 24

Even though the Centre on Tuesday expressed its concern over rising Covid-19 cases in Punjab, top officers in the district administration were today found in their offices without mandatory face masks.

During a visit to the District Administrative Complex, it was found that a majority of people were entering the complex without masks. Shockingly, some officers and their subordinate staff too were not wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.

Notably, as of now, just 392 health workers have got the second dose of the vaccine in the district. Health Department officials further informed that 1,228 workers and 469 frontline workers had so far got the first dose of the vaccine in the district.

Just a few commuters were seen wearing masks. Cops at some places challaned people for not wearing masks.

Meanwhile, some parents have appealed to the state government to rethink its decision to reopen schools. They even said when the Centre and state government were issuing fresh advisories and restrictions to deal with Covid-19, then the schools too should be closed for some time.

Dr Ranju Singla, Chief Medical Officer, Muktsar, said there had been a rise in Covid cases in the past week. At present, the district has 22 active Covid-19 patients.
