Muktsar police detain Dallewal

Farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal was detained by the police in Muktsar on Monday in connection with an agitation against a proposed biogas plant at Jamsher Khas, near Jalandhar.

Earlier, the Bharti Kisan Union (Sidhupur) had given a call to block the Amritsar-Delhi national highway on February 1 in protest against the plant. However, the agitation was temporarily withdrawn in view of Sant Ravidas Jayanti celebrations.

The farmers had warned of a highway blockade on February 2.

Union leader Kaka Singh Kotra said several leaders, including Jagjit Singh Dallewal, were detained.
