The Vigilance Bureau (VB) today caught ASI Avtar Singh, posted as the naib court at the Samrala court complex while accepting a bribe of Rs 7,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.

A VB spokesman said the ASI had been arrested on the complaint of Sandeep Kumar of Gianpura in UP, now residing in Machhiwara. He said Sandeep had lodged a complaint in the VB office in Ludhiana, alleging that an accident case was pending in the court against him, to which compromise had been affected between the parties. “Avtar demanded Rs 20,000 in the name of Assistant Public Prosecutor for recording his statement in court to execute the compromise, but the deal was struck at Rs 7,000.”
