Nancy Grewal murder: Conflicting claims of responsibility emerge on social media
Family rejects gang-related theories, cites anti-Khalistan threats
Conflicting and sensational claims of responsibility for the stabbing death of Punjabi-origin YouTuber Nancy Grewal in LaSalle, Ontario (near Windsor, Canada), have surfaced on social media, with anonymous profiles linked to pro-Khalistan rhetoric and rival Punjab-based gangster networks pointing fingers at each other in a bid to exploit the tragedy.
One set of posts, featuring Sikh religious symbols and hashtags such as #Akash_Harike, explicitly claimed the killing was carried out on behalf of "Prava" (brothers of Sikh Panth), naming individuals Akash Harike and Sukha Sandhu as responsible. The messages accused Grewal of "speaking wrongly" against Khalistan and Dharma, framing the murder as retribution for her criticism of the separatist movement.
Another post by Goldy Brar on a social media page claimed the crime was executed by their side, specifically naming Goldy Brar, Sachin Bishnoi (Dhattaranwali) and the Lawrence Bishnoi group.
These messages alleged Grewal's involvement or links to the killings of Vicky Middukhehra and Gurlal Brar, as well as the encounter death of Ankit Bhadu, insisting the act was revenge despite no police action against them in those cases. One such post declared responsibility while mocking authorities for inaction.
However, Punjab police officials have rejected Brar's claims. The officials said that Nancy had nothing to do with killing of Vicky Middukhera (killed in August 2021 in Mohali) or with killing of Lawrence Bishnoi protege Ankit Bhadu in Peer Muchalla, by Punjab Police.
Goldy Brar, once aligned with the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate, now operates independently after splits that have seen the factions target each other in recent violence.
LaSalle Police maintain the probe focuses on personal motives, urging the public to avoid speculation. Grewal's family in Punjab has alleged prior threats linked to her anti-Khalistan videos, but has not endorsed gang-related theories.
Media reports in Ludhiana and Jalandhar, quoting family members, have condemned the social media posts as propaganda that dishonours the victim's memory.
