A day after Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of former cricketer and former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, launched the Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Party, she clarified that as of today her husband has nothing to do with her new political venture.

“He is keeping away from politics and was busy with his showbiz activity,” she said at a press conference here today.

On being asked whether her husband was still with the Congress, she said that he was not with any political party. “Since 2022, no Congress leader has contacted him nor has he contacted anyone,” she asserted.

While Navjot Kaur had been in the past taking on the Congress leadership, her cricketer-turned politician husband has stayed away from politics. His X handle still has Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi on the cover photo, whom he has often described as his mentors and guiding angels.

She said in the coming days she would expose at least 37 corrupt and tainted politicians, including 17 Congressmen, as she had enough proof of their investments in India and abroad.

The former MLA from Amritsar (East) said she had been appointed Punjab in charge. “The Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Party was registered in June 2015. It has a presence in every state. For Punjab, they were looking for a suitable face, and after several nominations, my name was considered,” she said that there would be no interference from anyone outside Punjab, so that she can work independently.

While announcing that she will contest the 2027 Punjab Assembly election from the Bharatiya Rashtrawadi Party, she said that she has been receiving support calls from people abroad who are willing to back her.

The party will contest all 117 seats in Punjab. If her government comes to power, ministers will be required to submit performance reports within one month. Only experienced individuals will be included in the cabinet, and the primary focus will be on farmers.

Permission for opium cultivation for farmers

Navjot Kaur said that responsibilities in the party will be assigned based on individuals’ expertise. She also proposed allowing farmers to cultivate opium under regulation.

Comments on political leaders

Responding to a question about Raghav Chadha, she said he seems like a good person who has raised important issues. On political affiliations, she said good work should be appreciated regardless of party, mentioning leaders like Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi, adding that Priyanka is still like a sister to her. “But when Rahul did not listen about the misdeeds of his Punjab leaders, I called him ‘pappu’,” she said.
