No order found for OP Rana’s posting in Punjab Vigilance DGP office: CBI

The CBI has told the CBI court in Chandigarh that it has not found any office order authorising the posting or attachment of OP Rana in the office of the DGP, Vigilance Bureau, Punjab.

Public prosecutor Narender Singh made the submission while opposing the anticipatory bail application of accused OP Rana, who has been absconding since the FIR was registered in the bribery case.

In its written submission, CBI said that despite the absence of any formal posting or attachment order, OP Rana continued to function as Reader to the DGP, Vigilance Bureau, Punjab, and projected himself in that capacity.

CBI arrested three accused — Raghav Goyal, Vikas alias Vicky Goyal, and Ankit Wadhwa — in the bribery case on May 11. The case was registered on a complaint filed by Amit Kumar, a State Tax Officer posted in Malout.

CBI claimed that a case against complainant Amit Kumar was pending with the Punjab Vigilance Bureau. Accused Vikas Goyal and Raghav Goyal facilitated a meeting between the complainant and OP Rana in the latter’s office on April 29, 2026. During the meeting, Rana allegedly demanded Rs 20 lakh for ‘Sahab’ and a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold-7 mobile handset for himself. The negotiations took place in Chandigarh.

CBI told the court, “Documents collected during the investigation reveal that, according to official posting records, accused OP Rana was attached as Reader to ADGP/Traffic, Punjab (S.S. Chauhan, IPS) through an office order dated July 29, 2020. However, no subsequent office order authorising his posting or attachment in the office of the DGP, Vigilance Bureau, Punjab, has been traced so far. Despite the absence of any formal order, accused OP Rana continued to function as Reader to the DGP, Vigilance Bureau, Punjab, and projected himself in that capacity. This aspect is presently being looked into by CBI during the investigation of the present case.”
