Pakistan High Commission has issued 2,200 visas to Sikh pilgrims from India to participate in Baisakhi celebrations.

Under the framework of the Pakistan-India Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines of 1974, several Sikh pilgrims from India visit Panja Sahib, Nankana Sahib, and Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan every year.

The visas are for celebrations from April 12 to 21.

Pakistan’s High Commissioner in New Delhi Sohail Mahmood said in a statement that that action was “was reflective of the reverence attached to Baisakhi, both in its religious and cultural dimensions”.

Baisakhi is a harvest festival. It also marks the Sikh new year.
