The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of an alleged incident in Phillaur in which a mentally challenged Dalit youth was reportedly forced to engage in an act of bestiality.

The matter came to light after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi said in a media release that the panel had taken a serious note of the incident and issued a notice to the SSP (Jalandhar Rural) seeking a report by February 19.

The commission has also directed DSP Bharat Masih to personally submit the report at its office.
