Photographer dies in celebratory firing

DASUYA (HOSHIARPUR): A 25-year-old photographer, identified as Jaspal Singh, was killed in a celebratory firing during a pre-marriage function at Harodthala village here this evening.

A 25-year-old photographer, identified as Jaspal Singh, was killed in a celebratory firing during a pre-marriage function at Harodthala village here this evening.

The incident took place when a relative of the would-be bride loaded his gun and straightened it. A shot got fired from the weapon and hit the photographer, who was standing in front of him.

The family had hired Sukhchain Singh to click photographs of the marriage ceremonies. Sukhchain had employed two photographers — Jaspal Singh of Manasoorpur Mukerian village and Atul of Mukerian — for four days.

All three had gone to cover a wedding function at the girl’s house in the village.

Jaspal Singh was immediately rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The police are investigating the case. According to the police, the family concerned locked the house and fled the village.
