Plant to turn paddy straw into compost comes up in Barnala

A plant has been set up at Pandher village in Barnala to make compost from the stubble. This is the first such plant in the state where around 25 quintals of stubble would be converted into compost daily.
Barnala Deputy Commissioner Punamdeep Kaur said the compost plant had been set up by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Foundation, Goodyear and multipurpose cooperative society of Pandher village.
She said, “Paddy straw will be mixed with decomposers for 15 days. Manure will be returned to the farmer concerned so that he/she can use it as an organic fertiliser.”
ADC (G) Anuprita Johal assured that the administration would provide all possible help to the farmers for straw management.
Barnala Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Jagdish Singh told the farmers about the benefits of using smart and surface seeder.
Shivam Kharbanda, regional head, Goodyear, assured the farmers of all possible help. Sunil Kumar Mishra, head, CII Foundation, highlighted the steps being taken to promote agriculture.
