PM Modi pays tributes to Guru Tegh Bahadur on his 350th martyrdom anniversary

The PM joins commemoration virtually, lauds the guru as a symbol of courage and religious liberty

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday paid tributes to Guru Tegh Bahadur while acknowledging his unparalleled courage against oppression, and for defending religious freedom.

The PM joined the 350th martyrdom anniversary of the guru virtually, and addressed the gathering, whereas Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the event in Navi Mumbai.

In his address, the PM talked about the teachings of the Sikh gurus and wished to commemorate the guru’s martyrdom at the national level.

He underlined the Centre’s efforts to connect the Sikh community to Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib near the India-Pakistan border.

He also talked about the ‘saroops’ of Guru Granth Sahib being transported safely to India from Afghanistan.

Shah, in his address, said Guru Tegh Bahadur endured immense hardships and suffering to protect the Hindus.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis announced that a chapter on the martyrdom of the guru would be included in the Maharashtra school curriculum and that a hospital would be built at Owe Ground in Navi Mumbai in the name of the guru.
