Police bust gang using forged documents to secure bail for criminals; 3 arrested
The accused allegedly prepared high-quality forged Aadhaar cards and fake identification documents in the names of panchayat members
In a crackdown on organised crime facilitators, the Moga police today evening claimed to have busted a gang allegedly involved in securing court bail for criminals and gangster associates by using forged documents.
Acting on a specific tip-off, the Central Investigation Agency (CIA) staff, Moga, has arrested three persons linked to the racket.
The accused have been identified as Sonu, a resident of Awa Basti in Ferozepur district; Akash alias Sanju, also from Ferozepur district; and Gurwinder Singh alias Gaurav, a resident of Khosa Pando village in Moga district.
SP (D) Balakrishnan Singla said that the gang had developed a systematic method to manipulate the bail process in courts. The accused allegedly prepared high-quality forged Aadhaar cards and fake identification documents in the names of panchayat members.
These fabricated documents were then presented in different courts to stand as sureties for accused persons, particularly those associated with criminal gangs. In return for arranging bail through fraudulent means, the gang reportedly charged between Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 per case.
The police have recovered 11 forged Aadhaar cards, several fake Panchayat member identity cards.
According to a preliminary investigation, the gang managed to secure bail for at least three individuals in the past one month by using forged documents. The police are now scrutinising court records to ascertain whether the accused were involved in more such cases and to identify other beneficiaries of the racket.
“Efforts are also underway to trace additional members who may be part of the network,” the SP said.
