Ropar, March 17

Right to Information (RTI) Act activist Dinesh Chadha has lodged a complaint with the state Chief Electoral Officer against the local police for not registering an FIR against Orbit Aviation, whose bus was involved in an accident. The bus had hit a school bus near here on Friday.

At the time of the accident, 25 children were travelling on the school bus. The police did not register any case in the incident as neither the school management nor the parents of children lodged a complaint.

Chadha alleged that the authorities did not register the FIR because the Orbit Aviation was owned by the Badal family. He said the police had claimed that both the parties had struck a compromise, but it had no legal validity as it was not an individual matter.

Gurvinder Singh, DSP, said the police had impounded both the buses after the accident. When no body came forward to lodge a complaint in the matter and the school bus operator gave in writing that he had no complaint against the Orbit bus staff, the police could not take any action, he said.
