Police probe death of youth in Moga after suspected drug overdose

Following the suspected drug overdose death of a 28-year-old youth in Manuke village of Moga, the police authorities have launched an investigation. The incident has sparked widespread concern and rumours of a drug overdose on social media.

The Nihal Singh Wala police addressed the situation today to provide clarity on the timeline of events and the status of their findings. The deceased, identified as Gaggu Singh, son of Pala Singh, reportedly passed away today. Following his death, a video began circulating online alleging that the fatality was the result of a drug overdose, prompting immediate police intervention.

SHO Jatinder Singh acknowledged the viral claims. He stated that current investigations have not found evidence to support the theory of a drug overdose. The family of Gaggu Singh has not raised any suspicions or filed any legal complaints against anyone. The youth’s final rites were performed by the family earlier today.

While the specific cause of death remains classified as “sudden”, police are continuing to monitor the situation to ensure no foul play was involved, he said.

The SHO further stated that the department is not scaling back its efforts to combat narcotics in the region.

“We are conducting ongoing search operations in Manuke village. Multiple cases have already been registered against those selling illegal substances, and we will continue to take the strictest possible action against drug peddlers,” SHO Jatinder Singh said.
