Police, veterinary workers clash near Punjab CM’s residence in Sangrur
A minor scuffle broke out today between members of the ‘Veterinary AI (Artificial Insemination) Workers Union, Punjab’ and the police near the residence of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Dreamland Colony on the Sangrur-Patiala main road.
The incident occurred when the workers, who had gathered to demand regular jobs in the Department of Animal Husbandry, Punjab, attempted to breach police barricades. No injuries were reported.

The workers eventually began a dharna on the road but lifted it after being assured of a meeting with the Cabinet Sub-Committee on September 16 in Chandigarh to discuss their demands, including regularisation.

Nishan Singh Banwala, the state press secretary of the union, stated that the workers had been providing services to the Animal Husbandry Department for over 12 years, earning just Rs 50 per artificial insemination from cattle owners.
Despite previous meetings with Animal Husbandry Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, no resolution had been reached. Banwala highlighted that AAP leaders had promised to regularise the temporary employees during the last Assembly elections, but none had been regularised yet.
