Gidderbaha/Muktsar, July 28

It has been only about a month since newly elected Ludhiana MP-cum-PCC chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring resigned as Gidderbaha MLA, but the political activity has already gained momentum here. The byelection has to be held within six months of the seat falling vacant. Warring, who remained an MLA from here thrice, submitted his resignation to the Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on June 14.

Both Warring and his wife Amrita, who is being seen as a political heir of her husband in the constituency, separately toured the area in the recent past and held meetings with Congress workers. Similarly, the ticket aspirants of other political parties are also regularly touring the area.

SAD’s likely candidate Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon is also regularly uploading videos on social media, highlighting the problems being faced by area residents and blaming the Congress and AAP for it. Mocking Warring through a video, Dimpy said he won’t run away from Gidderbaha to Ludhiana in any situation.

Warring got elected from Gidderbaha thrice in a row (2012, 2017 and 2022). Earlier, former Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal won from Gidderbaha four times in a row (1995, 1997, 2002 and 2007) as a SAD candidate.

There are talks in political circles that a close aide of Warring may switch to AAP in the coming days.

BJP’s Muktsar district president Satish Asija said, “Like other political parties, the BJP is also active on the ground and holding meetings as well.”
