On singer’s 4th death anniversary, Balkaur alleges systemic harassment
Slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s father Balkaur Singh on Thursday levelled serious allegations against the Punjab Police, claiming that he continued to face systemic harassment even as the masterminds behind his son’s murder remained beyond the reach of the law.
Speaking at a gathering to mark the fourth death anniversary of his son in Mansa, an emotional Balkaur Singh expressed frustration over the slow pace of the investigation.
He said despite the passage of time since the singer’s daylight murder on May 29, 2022, justice still remained elusive for the family.
Addressing supporters, Balkaur Singh alleged that while the police had arrested local shooters and named known gang figures, the larger political and financial conspiracy behind the murder was deliberately being shielded.
“I am the father who lost his only son, yet instead of getting answers, I am the one being targeted and continuously harassed through administrative procedures. We have provided proof, we have made rounds of government offices, but the system is working to weaken our case,” he alleged.
The remarks came amid continuing friction between the family and the authorities, including recent protests outside the Mansa SSP office over the alleged unauthorised exploitation of Moosewala’s unreleased music and undistributed company revenues.
Frustrated over what he described as a failing law-and-order machinery under the state administration, Balkaur Singh hinted at turning his fight for justice into a larger public movement.
He also criticised the state government’s anti-gangster campaign, calling it mere rhetoric as long as the key conspirators behind high-profile killings remained free.
Security remained tight across Mansa and Moosa village as thousands of fans and supporters gathered to pay tribute to the late singer, turning the anniversary into a massive show of support demanding justice. On the occasion, the family also inaugurated a stadium in Moosewala’s memory in the village.
