Vijay Kumar told police that he was driving normally when the speeding car suddenly overturned and came onto his side of the road, leaving him no chance to avoid the collision. A local garage owner, Bains, who witnessed the accident, stated that the Toyota was coming from the Lovely University side and overturned due to speeding before crashing into the Tata 407.

The Road Safety Force reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident. ASI Makkar Singh confirmed that the car was moving at an excessively high speed and lost balance while coming from Phagwara towards Jalandhar. He clarified that the Tata 407 driver was not at fault in the accident.
