Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann pays homage to Kargil martyrs

Announces Rs 1 crore aid to kin of soldier who died while on duty

CM Bhagwant Mann today said the supreme sacrifice made by the valiant soldiers during the Kargil War would inspire youth to serve the country selflessly with missionary zeal and patriotic fervour.

Interacting with mediapersons on the sidelines of a function to mark Kargil Vijay Diwas here at the War Memorial today, he said the day was a symbol of extraordinary valour of the armed forces during the war. He said despite odds, the Indian soldiers defeated the Pakistan army that had intruded into Kargil, Drass and Batalik areas in July 1999.

Earlier, the CM laid a wreath at the memorial at the Bougainvillea Garden here and saluted the war heroes.

He said recognising the contribution of the bravehearts, the state had decided to give Rs 1 crore aid to family of any soldier attaining martyrdom during call of duty.
