Punjab govt clarifies SC Lists on Census-2027 portal based on constitutional provisions

The Department of Local Government, Punjab has clarified that all activities related to Census-2027 are being conducted strictly in line with the Constitution of India and guidelines issued by the Government of India.

In a press release, the department said the lists of Scheduled Castes being used on the Self-Enumeration Portal for Census-2027 are based on the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950, along with amendments issued under Article 341 of the Constitution.

The department further stated that, as per the standard procedure followed during every Census exercise, the Scheduled Castes lists used for Census purposes are verified and officially provided by the Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities, Punjab.

Officials said the same process has been followed for Census-2027 and all entries on the portal are based on official Constitutional notifications and records issued by competent authorities from time to time.

The department assured people that Census Operations-2027 are being carried out with transparency, sensitivity and strict adherence to Constitutional provisions and Government of India norms. It also urged the public not to believe misleading or unverified information regarding the issue.
