Punjab Police team to go to Canada for extradition of Jassi killing accused

Punjab Police will dispatch a team to Canada for extradition of the two main accused in the Jassi honour killing case. This follows rejection of stay on the extradition of Malkiat Kaur and her brother Surjit Badesha by a Canadian court on Tuesday.

DGP Suresh Arora said they would send a team as soon as they get official intimation about the extradition approval.

Jassi was the daughter of Malkiat Kaur and had married Sukhwinder Singh alias Mithu of Kaunke Khosa near Jagraon in Ludhiana in May 2000 against the wishes of her parents.

According to Punjab Police, the accused had ordered the honour killing of Jassi and Mithu by contract killers led by a Punjab Police inspector.

Canadian-born Jaswinder Sidhu was found dead, her throat slit, in Punjab in 2000. She was 25.

Her mother Malkit, 65, and uncle Surjit, 70, were arrested in 2012, suspected of the “honour killing”.
