Punjab, Rajasthan officials meet to control smuggling ahead of polls

A meeting of excise officials of Fazilka, Muktsar districts of Punjab and Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh of Rajasthan, was held here on Friday ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

During the Rajasthan Vidhan Sabha elections, at least a dozen vehicles carrying Punjab-made liquor were seized by the Excise Department and the Rajasthan Police in Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh. Police teams had raided offices and stores of liquor contractors at Lambi in Muktsar district and Ferozepur city.
Officials said that the main objective of the meeting was to stop illegal supply of liquor from Punjab to Rajasthan and vice versa. The meeting was organised by the Punjab Excise Department in Abohar.
According to officials, special planning will be done to confiscate money and other types of prohibited items apart from liquor.
Randhir Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Excise, Ferozepur Range, Vikram Dev Thakur, Assistant Commissioner of Excise, Faridkot Range, Tarun Goyal, Excise Officer, Fazilka, Reena Chhimpa, District Excise Officer, Sriganganagar, and Sanjeev Patawari, District Excise Officer, Hanumangarh, were present in the meeting.
