Punjab: Report of mysterious blast in Phagwara police station creates panic
Phagwara police dismiss report as fake, high alert sounded
The report of a mysterious blast in a Phagwara police station triggered panic since late Friday evening. Though the police dismissed the blast report as fake, they reacted swiftly with heightened alertness and comprehensive preventive measures to ensure public safety and maintain law and order in the city.
The Phagwara police and administration got into action mode after a social media post surfaced wherein an organisation took the responsibility of a grenade blast and termed it a reaction to the incidents of fake police encounters, while specifically mentioning the killing of 19-year-old Ranjit Singh in Gurdaspur.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Madhvi Sharma said all four police stations and police posts under Sub-Division Phagwara were thoroughly checked as a precautionary step. She informed that no suspicious activity or security breach was reported from any part of the jurisdiction. All police establishments were found to be completely secure, and the overall situation remained peaceful and under control.
Amid the intensified security exercise, a police team led by Inspector Aman Kumar Daveshwar launched a detailed search operation at the local railway station. The operation was carried out to rule out any possibility of mischief and to reassure commuters and residents. The railway premises and adjoining areas were comprehensively checked, and nothing objectionable was found.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Naveen Singla also personally monitored the situation and issued clear directives to further strengthen security arrangements. Acting on his instructions, field officers intensified the Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) and strengthened the night domination drive to prevent any attempt of the anti-social elements to disturb peace.
As part of the broader preventive strategy, authorities undertook target hardening of all police stations and police posts, increased night patrolling across sensitive areas, and enhanced CCTV surveillance in key locations throughout the city. The visible deployment of police personnel helped instill confidence among residents and deter any potential disturbance.
DIG Singla appealed to citizens not to fall prey to false propaganda or unverified information circulating on social media platforms. He urged the public to verify facts through official channels before forwarding any messages and cautioned that spreading misinformation could invite legal action.
