Punjab resolution on G RAM G political theatrics: Haryana CM
Says the Congress, Aam Aadmi Party are in the habit of launching misinformation campaign against Modi government’s pro-people initiatives
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini today launched a verbal offensive against the Congress and AAP for opposing the recently enacted Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) Act, 2025.
“The Congress, AAP share a ‘bua-fuffad’ (aunt-uncle) relationship. They are in the habit of launching misinformation campaign against Modi government’s pro-people initiatives. Instead of political theatrics, the Congress and AAP, especially CM Bhagwant Mann, should ensure Punjab pays Rs 400 wages like Haryana, instead of Rs 339, to labourers under the Act. Mann should have clearly read the Act before moving a resolution against it in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha,” Saini said.
Saini flagged a social audit conducted in 5,915 out of 13,304 gram panchayats in Punjab, which revealed 10,663 cases of financial irregularities, including illegal withdrawals in the name of road and canal cleaning. “Despite these findings and intervention by central teams, no recovery was made and no action was taken against the guilty,” the CM alleged.
Saini has been making regular forays into the neighbouring state to boost the BJP’s prospects in poll-bound Punjab in the run-up to the 2027 Assembly poll.
Citing the 2013 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, the Chief Minister said that during the UPA regime, MGNREGA was riddled with fake beneficiaries, manipulated job cards and large-scale financial misappropriation. “Congress’ repeated lies have completely destroyed their credibility and led people to openly mock and dismiss their claims. The Congress has mastered the art of spreading misinformation whenever it runs out of logic or constructive ideas,” he asserted.
He also claimed that the new Act represented a fundamental overhaul of the rural employment policy in India, ensuring more guaranteed workdays, higher wages, transparent payments and creation of durable assets, while putting an end to the corruption and inefficiencies that plagued the earlier MGNREGA framework.
Saini said under the new law, the employment guarantee had been increased from 100 to 125 days, significantly enhancing assured income for rural workers. He said this would lead to an average annual income increase of over Rs 7,000 for an unskilled rural worker across India. In Haryana, where the wage rate of Rs 400 is the highest in the country, each worker would earn at least Rs 10,000 more annually, he said.
He said the new law incorporates biometric authentication, direct digital wage transfers, geo-tagging of assets and satellite monitoring through ISRO’s Bhuvan portal. He said weekly public disclosures and a multi-level grievance redressal system with a seven-day resolution timeline would ensure accountability and transparency under new regime.
