AAP-affiliated sarpanch Jarmal Singh was shot dead on January 4 during a wedding ceremony at the Mary Gold Resort in Amritsar. CCTV footage showed two assailants calmly approaching Singh, pulling out concealed pistols, and shooting him point-blank in the head from behind before fleeing the scene. Singh was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

Police investigations revealed that the murder conspiracy was masterminded by individuals based abroad, who arranged funding, weapons and logistics from outside India.

Foreign-based gangsters, including Prabh Dasuwal, later claimed responsibility on social media, alleging that Singh had survived three earlier assassination attempts.

One of the key conspirators, Harnoor Singh alias Noor, was killed in a police encounter in Tarn Taran shortly after the murder.

DGP Yadav said intensive interrogation of the arrested accused is underway to trace the complete network, money trail, and weapon supply chain. He reiterated that Punjab Police have launched a special drive against organised crime and asserted that no criminal would be spared, irrespective of where they are hiding.
