About 96.48 per cent students cleared the Class 12 exams conducted by the Punjab School Education Board the results of which were declared on Friday.

A total of 2,92,663 regular students had appeared in the exams and out of these, 2,82,349 students cleared the exams.

Last year, the Class 12 results recorded a passing percentage of 90.98 percent while in 2019, over 2.5 lakh students had appeared for Class 12 exams, with the state recording 86.41 pass percentage.

With 99.57 pass percentage, Ropar district secured top position in the state, while Patiala district bagged the second place with a pass percentage of 99.08 per cent, followed by Muktsar district with 99.06 per cent.

Giving details, PSEB Chairman Dr Yograj said in the urban area, 12,2,594 students had appeared in the exams and out of these, 1,18,461 cleared the exam, securing the pass percentage of 96.63 per cent. While in rural area, a total of 1,70,049 students had appeared and out of these, 1,63,888 cleared the exams.

Dr Yograj said the girls this year outshone the boys as 97.34 per cent students cleared the exams, while boys secured a pass percentage of 95.74 per cent. A total of 1,34,672 girls had appeared  in the exams and out of these, 1,32,691 cleared the exams, while a total of 1,57,951 boys had appeared and out of these, 1,51,258 passed out.

In the affiliated and Adarsh schools, out of the total 74,643 students, 69,652 cleared the exams, securing a pass percentage of 93.31 per cent, which is marginally below than government schools. Similarly, in associated schools, a total of 15,784 students appeared in the exams and 14,719 passed, securing a pass percentage of 93.25 per cent.

In the meritorious schools of the Punjab government, a total of 4,244 students appeared and out of these, 4,233 students cleared the exams, securing the pass percentage of 99.74 per cent.

In the Commerce stream, 31,562 students appeared and out of these, 29,943 cleared the exams, securing the pass percentage of 94.87 per cent. In the Science stream, 43,537 students appeared and out of these, 39,500 students passed, securing the pass percentage of 94 per cent.

Maximum number of 2,07,285 students had appeared in Humanities stream and out of these, 2,01,264 students cleared the exams, securing the pass percentage of 97.10 per cent. In the vocational courses, 12,269 students appeared and out of these, 12,096 students passed, securing the pass percentage of 98.51 per cent.
