Chandigarh, June 27

Kartik Popli, the son of arrested Punjab IAS officer Sanjay Popli was cremated at the Sector 25 cremation ground in Chandigarh on Monday. His father performed the last rites amid police presence.

Earlier today, Kartik's post-mortem examination was conducted at the PGI by a panel of three doctors.

While the police claim that Kartik shot himself from a licenced pistol of his father, his family alleged that a vigilance team conducting a search at their house in Sector 11, Chandigarh, had killed him on Saturday.

A Vigilance Bureau spokesperson said they had recovered over 12 kg of gold, 3 kg of silver, five high-end mobile phones, two smart watches from the storeroom of Popli's house in Chandigarh.

The recovery included nine gold bricks, each weighing 1 kg, 49 gold biscuits, 12 gold coins and three silver bricks weighing 1 kg each, said the spokeperson.

Last week, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau had arrested IAS officer Sanjay Popli in a graft case for allegedly demanding bribe in exchange of clearing tenders for laying a sewerage pipeline in Nawanshahr.
