Railways cancels, diverts trains for tomorrow’s ‘rail roko’

The farmer unions’ call for the ‘rail roko’ on Thursday has forced the Railways to either cancel or divert several trains in the northern part of the country.

Covid-hit services to resume soon

• The Northern Railway has announced to resume regular services of 35 pairs of trains, which were hit by Covid and farmers’ agitiation, in the region soon. A railway official said five pairs would commence their normal run in a couple of days
• The proposed unreserved mail/express trains would run between Udhampur-Pathankot; Pathankot-Joginder Nagar-Pathankot; Ferozepur-Bathinda-Ferozepur; Amritsar-Pathankot-Amritsar; and Banihal-Baramulla-Banihal

The Northern Railway has cancelled the Darbhanga-Amritsar Express Special till February 17. The Nanded-Amritsar Express will short-terminate at Chandigarh. On February 19, it will short-originate from Chandigarh and remain partially cancelled between Chandigarh-Amritsar.

The Korba-Amritsar Express will short-terminate at Ambala. Consequently, on February 19, it will short-originate from Ambala and remain partially cancelled between Ambala-Amritsar.

The Ajmer-Amritsar Express will short-terminate at Jalandhar city. On February 18, it will short-originate from Jalandhar city and remain partially cancelled between Jalandhar city-Amritsar.

The Mumbai Central-Amritsar, Bandra Terminus-Amritsar, Jaynagar-Amritsar Express Special trains on February 17 will be diverted to run via Beas-Tarn Taran-Amritsar. The New Jalpaiguri-Amritsar and Amritsar-Haridwar Express Special will be also diverted to run via Beas-Tarn Taran-Amritsar on February 17.

Meanwhile, in its efforts to restore the train movement post Covid-induced lockdown and the farmers’ blockade last year in a phased manner, the Northern Railway has announced to resume regular services of 35 pairs of passenger, express and mail trains in the region soon. — TNS
