The Punjab Mini Secretariat, it seems, will have hire a pied piper to control the rat menace as the rodents have reportedly nibbled cable lines and rendered nearly half of the about 500 phone lines dead today.

It was only last month that a number of cables were changed due to the same problem.

Apart from that, a number of officials had earlier complained that working was difficult in some of the rooms as rodents have infested the building badly and many jumped around above the false ceiling and the AC ducts.

Kripa Shankar Saroj, Secretary, General Administration, said he had got complaints and a solution was being devised.

Last year, the main Civil Secretariat faced similar problems.

Due to the snapped lines, officials and staff are facing issues in communicating through intercom or making phone calls. Similarly, people having government-related work could not fix up appointments with officials concerned.
