Narain Singh Chaura was the brain behind a number of terror incidents. He remained a close aide of late Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and jailed terrorist Jagtar Singh Hawara.
Chaura has authored three books and several articles on the separatist movement. His third book, which rebuts claims of the police and security agencies on Khalistan, was released just a week ago.
The first book was on the life of Bhindranwale while the second was co-authored with former Punjabi journalists, which documented all movements of Sikh and Akali history since 1973. “He was the brain behind many terror incidents, including the Burail Jail breakcase of 2004 in which Hawara escaped from the prison. Chaura took him away in a rickety car,” recalled a retired police officer. He was last granted bail in 2022 but remained under scrutiny for his involvement in several criminal activities.
