Relief for Sangrur-Ludhiana road commuters

SANGRUR: In a big relief to thousands of daily commuters on the Sangrur-Ludhiana road, a local court has dismissed the petition of the Ladda toll plaza authorities against the construction of an alternative road near the plaza.

Sangrur, April 25

In a big relief to thousands of daily commuters on the Sangrur-Ludhiana road, a local court has dismissed the petition of the Ladda toll plaza authorities against the construction of an alternative road near the plaza.

“The court of Sangrur Additional Sessions Judge Jasjit Bhinder has dismissed the petition of the plaza authorities against the alternative road,” said Harpeet Singh, advocate of Dhuri Congress MLA Dalvir Singh Goldy.

After residents of surrounding villages alleged harassment by employees of the toll plaza, MLA Goldy organised meetings in surrounding villages in 2017 and mobilised support against the plaza. Then with the help of “affected” residents, the MLA collected around Rs 22 lakh to construct road on 1.75 km alongside a canal from Ladda village to Benra. The construction was started in December 2017 and finally bitumen was laid. — TNS
