Revise electoral rolls for local body elections: Punjab poll panel

CHANDIGARH: The State Election Commission (SEC) on Saturday issued directions to prepare or revise the electoral rolls for the general elections of three municipal corporations and 32 municipal councils in Punjab.



Chandigarh, November 11

The State Election Commission (SEC) on Saturday issued directions to prepare or revise the electoral rolls for the general elections of three municipal corporations and 32 municipal councils in Punjab.

The polls for the local bodies, including the Amritsar, Jalandhar and Patiala municipal corporations, are likely to be held next month.

The directions were issued to deputy commissioner-cum- district electoral officers and district officials concerned, an official spokesman said.

The electoral rolls will be prepared on the basis of the voter list of the Punjab assembly elections held this year and on November 14, the draft electoral rolls will be published, he said.

The last date for filing claims and objections is November 20 and the final rolls will be published on November 28, the spokesman.

Elections will be held for Rajasansi council in Amritsar; Handiaya in Barnala; Amloh in Fatehgarh Sahib; Mallanwala Khas and Makhu in Ferozepur; Bhogpur, Shahkot, Goraya and Bilga in Jalandhar; Dhillwan, Begowal and Bhulath in Kapurthala; Machhiwara, Mullanapur Dakha, Maloud and Sahnewal in Ludhiana; and Baghapurana, Dharamkot and Panjtoor in Moga.

Besides, poll will be held Bariwala in Muktsar, Ghagga and Ghanaur in Patiala, Narot Jaimal Singh in Pathankot; Dirba, Cheema, Khanauri and Moonak in Sangrur); Khemkaran in Tarn Taran, Bhikhi in Mansa; Balachaur in SBS Nagar; Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda and Mahilpur in Hoshiarpur. PTI
