Robbery mastermind turns out to be victim's relative
After a daylight robbery was committed at a teacher’s house in Jain Nagari, Abohar, on Friday, the police have now found out that it was masterminded by her own relative. The teacher said she was taken hostage with a sharp-edged weapon by two individuals who allegedly entered her house after she returned from her workplace, Bhag Singh Khalsa College of Women, located in Kala Tibba village.
The police said when the teacher reached home around 3:30 pm on January 31, two youths forcibly entered her house and locked the door from inside. They threatened the woman with a sharp weapon and made her inhale a sedative. They fled after looting gold and cash from the house. On the statements of Jyoti's husband Soni Chugh, the police registered a case under Sections 307 and 333 of the BNS and began an investigation.
Police teams were formed who, with the help of CCTV footage and technical support, traced mastermind Ashwini Kumar, alias Bittu, and his accomplice Jasminderpal Singh of Panjpeer Nagar, Abohar, and recovered the looted money and jewellery from them.
The police said that Rs 55,000 in cash and gold earrings were recovered from the accused. During investigation, the victim said that when the safe vault of a cupboard in the house was re-checked, only a pair of gold earrings weighing about 2.760 gm and Rs 60 thousand were found missing, everything else was safe.
Investigation revealed that Ashwini was a cousin of victim Soni Chugh and many cases had been registered against him earlier also. Both will be further questioned in custody.
