Chandigarh, February 5

To create more employment opportunities for youth belonging Scheduled Caste (SC) category, the Punjab Government has provided loans to the tune of Rs 6.95 crore to 494 youths at low interest rates for self-employment.

Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Sadhu Singh Dharmsot said the Punjab Scheduled Castes Land Development and Finance Corporation had set a target to provide loan to 1,400 poor and deserving youth to the tune of Rs 2,250 lakh during the year 2020-21. He said 494 youths had been provided Rs 6.95 crore as loan on low interest rates so far, and the process to provide loans to others was underway.

He said the state government had authorised district managers to sanction loans up to Rs 1 lakh. — TNS
