The Shiromani Akali Dal on Monday sought an independent investigation into what it termed as the “conspiracy to save” former Delhi CM and AAP leader Atishi after her alleged derogatory remarks for Sikh Gurus.

A video of the alleged remarks had surfaced recently, stoking a major controversy.

Addressing a press conference here, SAD spokesperson Arshdeep Kler said more shocking was that a “false report” stamping the video as doctored was secured from the Mohali Forensic Science Laboratory through the Jalandhar commissionerate. Kler said the “lie” of the Jalandhar police has been nailed”, with the Delhi Speaker presenting a conclusive report to prove that the video was “genuine” and not tampered with.

“We demand an independent probe into how a conspiracy was hatched to wipe out the proof,” he said, adding that the Punjab Police should explain under what jurisdiction they handled the matter as the incident had took place in Delhi.

Kler also claimed that the government had been patronishing gangsters. He said it had given a statement in a Mohali court that it did not have any evidence against dreaded gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria.

He said the AAP government had earlier facilitated the transfer of Bhagwanpuria from Assam to Punjab during the Tarn Taran bypoll to influence the poll result.
