SAD to boycott Gidderbaha poll

Gidderbaha, February 6

A day after Gidderbaha Congress MLA Amrinder Singh Raja Warring publicly dared the Akalis, the latter today decided to boycott the municipal council elections in the town, saying they did not want to indulge in violence and disturb peace.

Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon, SAD’s Gidderbaha constituency in charge, alleged: “Civil and police officers are acting at the behest of the Congress. They first rejected the nominations of two of our candidates without a valid reason. Last evening, the nominations of three of our candidates were withdrawn when no one had even visited the SDM office for the purpose.”

SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal had yesterday visited Gidderbaha and addressed party workers during a protest outside the SDM office. He asked Warring to mend ways. Later, Warring and Congress workers assembled at the venue, and dared Akalis on a number of points. SDM Om Parkash could not be contacted for a comment. — TNS
