Fazilka, August 25

The Mining Department and Fazilka police jointly conducted a raid at an illegal sand quarry in Sukhera Bodla village of Jalalabad subdivision in Fazilka district in the evening today.

District Mining Officer, Gitesh Upveja, said the department and police team conducted a raid today and found that sand excavation was being carried out illegally. He said that three machines and some vehicles have been confiscated from the site.

Mining was being carried out much beyond the stipulated depth and even up to 40-50 ft, violating the guidelines of the state government.

The villagers also alleged that Rs 18-19 per cubic feet were being charged against the fixed price of Rs 5.78 per cubic feet.
