Sangrur, June 21

The campaigning for the high-stakes Sangrur Lok Sabha byelection came to an end on Tuesday as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann strongly countered the Opposition’s charge of deteriorating law and order in the state.

People being misled

The Opposition is baffled by the dynamic functioning of the AAP government in the past three months. It is trying to mislead the people. — Bhagwant Mann, Chief Minister

Mann broke trust

People are angry with CM Bhagwant Mann for betraying their trust. Now they will take out their anger against him in the byelection. — Sukhbir Singh Badal, SAD Chief

Lashing out at the Opposition for making a hue and cry over the law and order, the Chief Minister said the state was in safe hands and the situation was completely under control.

“The social bond in Punjab is very strong. Those who spread hatred find no place here,” Mann said during an interaction with mediapersons here while campaigning for party candidate Gurmail Singh.

Asserting all perpetrators involved in the murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala would be nabbed soon, Mann said the Punjab Government was investigating the case in association with central agencies and five other states.

“The Opposition is baffled by the dynamic functioning of the AAP government in three months. They are trying to mislead the people,” Mann said while giving a stern warning to elements trying to disturb the peace and harmony of the state.

Replying to a media query over the Agnipath scheme, he said the BJP government would not only spoil the future of youth, but it would also demoralise the armed forces by implementing the scheme.

Meanwhile, SAD president Sukhbir Badal addressed public meetings at Bakhatgarh, Bihla, Kutba, Hameedi and Sherpur.

He said the SAD was contesting the bypoll on the sole agenda of securing the release of Sikh prisoners and that if the Centre acceded to this demand, they were ready to withdraw from the fray even at this stage.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring slammed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for insulting Mann publicly by making him latch on the side of a car as he himself stood inside the vehicle.
